Neuro-physiotherapy may be helpful to individuals of any age who have difficulties moving and functioning normally as a result of a neurological injury or a neurological disorder. Neurological conditions include:

Neuro Physiotherapists work with individuals who have neurological problems, to improve their movement, strength, function and mobility and provide support and advice that helps people to learn to cope with their difficulties and the challenges that their condition brings with it.

Neuro-physiotherapy rehabilitation is a specialist field of physiotherapy using expert manual therapy techniques, handling, and exercise programmes to manage the symptoms of neurological disorders. Rehabilitation may be a short-term or long-term intervention, on an occasional or intense basis, and can take place in a physiotherapy clinic or within an individual’s home or school.

We treat all manner of neurological disorders and injuries, and neurological problems resulting from an illness. Our specialist Paediatric team is experienced in dealing with children aged from birth to 16 years of age, and a team of specialist Neuro Physiotherapists who treat adults from age 16 onwards. If your child has not been given a formal diagnosis, but you are concerned that they may have difficulties with their movement, co-ordination or sensory processing, please do get in touch. Our specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist is experienced in the assessment and physiotherapy rehabilitation of children who may not yet have received a formal diagnosis from a doctor.

You do not necessarily need a referral to arrange an appointment with us, unless you are being referred through your own health insurance policy, or through a Case Manager or Solicitor who is handling your case (please check your specific policy details).Your GP or Consultant may wish to formally refer you for physiotherapy with a referral letter, which you can bring with you on your first session. If you are self-referring, you do not need any form of referral.

We are covered by all major health insurance companies (such as BUPA, AXA/PPP, Aviva, Vitality, Simply Health, WPA etc). You will need to speak with them before referring yourself for physiotherapy as they may need you to obtain a referral from your GP first. Please also check with them as to whether you have an excess amount to pay on your policy, or a limited number of sessions available for physiotherapy treatment. They may issue you with an authorisation code which you will need to bring with you on your first session. You are ultimately responsible for your treatment costs so it is important that you check your insurance policy carefully to make sure you understand what costs they will cover.

Policies with companies such as Simply Health (formerly Leeds Hospital Fund), Sovereign Health or The Westfield may reimburse a percentage of your physiotherapy costs following submission of a receipt for each session (please ask us for a receipt at the end of each session).

Yes, we provide a mobile physiotherapy service for all of our neurological clients, across the Yorkshire region, as we understand that there are many reasons why it may not be convenient or appropriate for you to have your physiotherapy appointments in one of our clinics. Please do get in touch to discuss this with us. Please note that there may be additional travel costs for your appointments with us if you opt to be seen outside of one of our clinics.

You may wish to speak with one of our team prior to arranging an appointment as you may have questions you need to ask before committing to making an appointment. You may wish a family member, carer or chaperone to be with you during your physiotherapy sessions. This is not a problem, and if you require the presence of a chaperone but you are unable to provide your own, please let us know when you contact us initially and we can arrange to have one present.

At your initial appointment, your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your physical difficulties and abilities through specific testing, and assess your functional capacity and needs. You will be asked questions about your health, past medical problems and details about what you feel are your specific problems and goals. Following your assessment, we will discuss our findings with you (and any family / carers present, as appropriate) and advise you as to how we can help you. If you are happy to proceed with further sessions, we can formulate a treatment plan together with you based on short-term and long-term needs and goals. A further appointment can be arranged if required at the end of your initial appointment.

It is important that you wear something loose fitting and comfortable for your physiotherapy sessions. We may need to assess various areas of your body that require the removal of some layers of clothing. For example we may need to observe the position / movement of your lower back, knee or shoulder, and use specific handling techniques / manual therapies to treat these areas. In this case you may wish to wear something like a vest top, jogging bottoms or shorts to enable us to observe and handle these areas effectively. We consider your privacy and dignity to be very important and will always ask your permission to examine / handle your body, before we continue with our assessment / therapy.

Typically an initial assessment lasts for an hour where we conduct a full assessment, discuss our findings with you and talk about possible treatment options alongside your personal goals. Subsequent treatment sessions can then be arranged as 30-minute, 45-minute or 1-hour appointments, depending upon the treatment needs and your requirements. These sessions are charged accordingly. A course of treatment will vary in length between individuals and will be discussed at intervals with you as your progress is reviewed. We can provide intensive physiotherapy where you are seen on a regular basis for a specific period, intermittent treatment on a more sporadic basis (for example once a month or once every 2-3 months), or as and when you feel you require physiotherapy. We can schedule in review discussions with you to take place over the telephone to check on your progress and plan any required sessions around this (this is non-chargeable, just part of the service).

If you have been referred to us through your Insurance Company, Solicitor or Case Manager, you may have a particular number of physiotherapy sessions pre-authorised by them, and they may require that you attend for physiotherapy at specific intervals.

There is parking at all our clinic sites (free at all sites other than our Leeds City Centre site), with full disabled and wheelchair access at all locations.

We have clinics based in Leeds City Centre (LS1 6JL), Burley in Wharfedale (LS29 7JX) and Garforth (LS25 2LD). We also provide a mobile physiotherapy service where we will arrange to visit you at your home, care home or school if this is more suitable. If you are self-paying, you can pay by cash, cheque or credit / debit card at any one of our clinics. If you are having your physiotherapy sessions within either your home or your school, we can only accept payment by cash or cheque. We normally take payment after each session rather than issue a monthly or end of treatment invoice.

If your insurance policy is covering your physiotherapy costs we can either invoice them directly (an authorisation code / reference is often required), or we can issue you with a receipt of payment if you are paying for the sessions yourself and then recouping the cost from your insurance company. If you are being referred to us via a Case Manager, Solicitor or Insurer, they may be covering the costs of your sessions and have agreed this cost with us prior to referring you to us. As such, we will normally invoice them directly.

If your physiotherapy assessment and treatment is taking place in your home, school or another location away from our clinics, a travel cost may additionally apply depending upon that location. Please discuss this with us prior to arranging your appointment.
