What happens at my first appointment?

You may wish a family member, carer or chaperone to be with you during your physiotherapy sessions. This is not a problem, and if you require the presence of a chaperone but you are unable to provide your own, please let us know when you contact us initially and we can arrange to have one present.

At your initial appointment, your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your physical difficulties and abilities through specific testing, and assess your functional capacity and needs. You will be asked questions about your health, past medical problems and details about what you feel are your specific problems and goals. Following your assessment, we will discuss our findings with you (and any family / carers present, as appropriate) and advise you as to how we can help you. If you are happy to proceed with further sessions, we can formulate a treatment plan together with you based on short-term and long-term needs and goals. A further appointment can be arranged if required at the end of your initial appointment.
